The Roost Podcast | Ep 75 – Remembering Courtney Hall

May 14, 2021 By Matthew Bartlett

This week’s edition of the Roost Podcast is a tribute to Courtney Hall, honoring his memory and impact on the Rice University family.

It seemed fitting to pause from our offseason discussion this week to honor Courtney Hall, the former Rice Football star who went on to achieve tremendous things on and off the field. Joining us to reminisce and speak to Hall’s impact at Rice and beyond is former classmate and friend, Sten Gustafson. He recaps Hall’s journey through South Main and shares what Hall meant to him and the Rice community.

The Roost Podcast | Ep 74 – Rice Football and C-USA mailbag

April 29, 2021 By Matthew Bartlett

We reached out to the masses for this week’s mailbag show, with topics ranging from Rice football recruiting, Conference USA towns and tacos.

Our offseason interview series took a brief pause this week. Instead, we asked our listeners what they wanted to hear about, and the range of topics did not disappoint. There’s a chance several Conference USA fan bases will have an opinion on which school has the best town in the conference. If you do, make sure to give the podcast a follow on Twitter and chime in.

The Roost Podcast | Ep 73 – Austin Trammell talks Pro Day, NFL goals

April 15, 2021 By Matthew Bartlett

We catch up with former Rice football wide receiver Austin Trammell on this week’s show and discuss his Rice career, NFL aspirations and more.

Austin Trammell has been a staple of the Rice football receiving corps for what feels like forever. He won’t be catching passes at South Main this coming fall, rather opting to make a run at the NFL. We discuss that decision, his time at Rice, playing through the challenges of COVID-19 on this week’s show.

We didn’t remember to ask him about the origins of The Sheriff nickname. That’ll have to wait until he makes a return visit to the show. You can always find previous episodes on the podcast page. For now, give a listen to Episode 73.

The Roost Podcast | Ep 72 – Aston Walter and spring practice “Believe it or Not”

March 25, 2021 By Matthew Bartlett

We catch up with former Rice football running back Aston Walter on this week’s show and dive into trends and surprises from spring practice.

Spring is in the air and Rice football is on the grass. More than half of the spring sessions have passed, giving us a decent sample size to draw conclusions from. You can find the full practice reports when you subscribe on Patreon.

On this week’s show, we broke down those observations by playing a quick game of “Believe it or Not.” Then we were joined by former Rice football running back Austin Walter, now a graduate assistant at Vanderbilt. He detailed his dreams of being a coach and his journey since he left Rice.

You can always find previous episodes on the podcast page. For now, give a listen to Episode 72.
