2025 Rice Football Season Preview: Offensive Line

August 18, 2025 By Matthew Bartlett

Next up in our 2025 Rice Football Season Preview: offensive line. Here’s our breakdown of the Owls’ plans for the group this season.

A new Rice football offensive scheme means a reworked offensive line, which will be asked to operate much differently than the unit was a season ago when Rice ran a more West Coast style of offense. While that was a tall order when head coach Scott Abell arrived, it’s been nothing but glowing endorsements of the progress made by the players they inherited in the offensive trenches to this point. Abell has continued to reiterate how optimistic he is about this unit.

Rice Football 2025 Spring Practice Notebook 6: In the Trenches

April 10, 2025 By Matthew Bartlett

The Rice football offensive line has impressed this spring as the group evolves into the Owls’ new offensive scheme one practice at a time.

Watching the offensive line transition from a West Coast scheme to a spread option offense has been one of the more intriguing journeys of Rice football spring practice. Every group has been learning a new language and a new way of doing things, but the way the offensive line has had to adapt and how effectively they’ve turned the page has been notable.

This update dives into the progress the offensive line has made, what’s going to look different when it comes to how they’ll play on Saturdays and an early look at what players are lining up where this spring.

Rice football has a 121-man roster entering the 2024 season. From position changes to eligibility remaining, this chart will help keep everything in order.

Keeping track of eligibility and positions can be challenging and there wasn’t one single source that had the most up-to-date information — now there is. In addition to the roster tracker and as a complement to the roster, which has been updated to account for all the final additions and changes with the start of camp, this grid tracks every Rice football player by position and classification. Position changes from last season and/or the spring are also detailed below.
