Wide receiver has been an interesting position to follow in Rice football spring practice. What have we learned from the relatively young room?

It’s been a spring of change for the Rice football wide receivers. Bobby Kennedy is the Owls’ only new position coach, taking over in the room for Mike Kershaw, who departed in the winter. Also on the way out is standout Luke McCaffrey, a likely NFL Draft selection in a few weeks. Where does that leave the rest of the room? In the midst of change lies an opportunity several have used to their advantage.

Rice football wrapped up its first scrimmage of spring practice on Saturday which began with the offense marching down the field for a touchdown.

Head coach Mike Bloomgren said he was “incredibly pleased” when the first scrimmage of the spring concluded on Saturday. Rice football got some splash plays from their offense, a few defensive highlights and lots of different faces onto the field in a busy afternoon at Rice Stadium. Rice football returned from spring break and got back on the practice field this week. There were standouts at all levels, but the trenches stuck out the most. The offensive line has wowed early, even as they rotate through several faces. Meanwhile, on defense, the up-and-coming youngsters are working to make a name for themselves alongside some veteran pieces.
