August 4, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

Next up in our 2024 Rice Football Season Preview: wide receiver. Here’s our breakdown of the Owls’ plans for the group this season.

Perhaps the deepest room on the Rice football roster, the second and third levels of the wide receiver depth chart represent a fierce battle for playing time that will be worth following throughout fall camp and into the regular season. Replacing Luke McCaffrey is just part of the intrigue at this position which boasts a couple of experienced returns a pair of transfers and a host of players vying for more time on the field this coming season.

August 2, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

The first depth chart headed into the 2024 Rice Football fall camp has been released and there’s a lot to unpack as the Owls hit the grass this week.

Rice football fall camp officially kicked off on Friday and with it, we have our first depth chart on the fall. While most of the roster is intact, there has been a decent amount of churn over the summer, making this edition look somewhat different from where things left off this spring.

Rice Football Position Battles to Watch in Fall Camp: July 2024 Q&A

July 29, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

Rice Football reports for fall camp this week. With the season approaching in earnest, this month’s Q&A focuses on what we’re watching for in camp.

After what felt like forever, Rice football is back on the grass this week. There are a lot of returning pieces, but not every section of the two deep is written in stone, far from it. This month’s Q&A focuses on some of those less certain areas and highlights which position groups will receive the most scrutiny over the next few weeks.

Questions were edited briefly for clarity. Want to get your questions answered? Subscribe on Patreon for our monthly mailbag.

Q: Is it too early to talk about fall camp? Obviously wide receiver is up in the air without Luke [McCaffrey], but what other positions are you most interested in?

Rice Football 2024 Spring Notebook 10: Unanswered Questions

April 23, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

A few outstanding questions remain for Rice football after the conclusion of spring practice. Let’s address a few unknowns and potential concerns.

It was largely an encouraging spring for Rice football. Both sides of the ball had their moments. New quarterback EJ Warner looked poised and productive in just a few short weeks. The coaching staff walked away happy, for the most part. But no football team is ever perfect after spring practices and they’ll have a few months to address the concerns that remain as best they can. What are those potential pain points? We highlight a few from the totality of spring practices below.

Rice Football 2024 Spring Practice Notebook 6: Wideout Roundup

April 10, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

Wide receiver has been an interesting position to follow in Rice football spring practice. What have we learned from the relatively young room?

It’s been a spring of change for the Rice football wide receivers. Bobby Kennedy is the Owls’ only new position coach, taking over in the room for Mike Kershaw, who departed in the winter. Also on the way out is standout Luke McCaffrey, a likely NFL Draft selection in a few weeks. Where does that leave the rest of the room? In the midst of change lies an opportunity several have used to their advantage.
