October 29, 2025 By Matthew Bartlett

The Rice Football offense took a step forward last week. What did the Owls learn and what can they replicate against Memphis? Here’s news from the practice field.

Chase Jenkins took a big step on Saturday against UConn and that’s carried over into practice this week as Rice football prepares for Memphis on Friday. This update digs into how Jenkins’ growth has impacted how the staff builds their game plan, which players have risen up to help him execute it and some important revelations in the offensive and defensive trenches.

Rice Football 2025: UConn Game Week Practice Notes

October 22, 2025 By Matthew Bartlett

It’s been a week of rest and strategizing for Rice football as they prepare to kick off the second half of their season against UConn. Here’s news from the practice field.

A week and a half removed from losing three quarterbacks in a game and suffering a third straight defeat, Rice football looks refreshed and restored heading into its Week 7 game against UConn. It’s not all positive news on the health front, but the program is certainly looking in much better shape than it did two weeks ago.

This week’s update will hit on those key injuries, particularly at quarterback, as well as what wrinkles the program has been able to implement in the bye week and a few other risers and fallers in the off week.

And This Week’s Starting Quarterback Will Be…?

Rice Football 2025: Bye Week Practice Notes

October 16, 2025 By Matthew Bartlett

Rice Football is in recovery mode this week, working to get the roster healthy and well-rested during the bye week, particularly at the quarterback position.

The health of Rice Football starting quarterback Chase Jenkins is, understandably, at the front of everyone’s minds as the team enters their first bye week of the season after a brutal seven game run to open the year. This update shares what is known on Jenkins at this point, discusses the implications of corner Khary Crump’s suspension and a few important bye week items the team is addressing.

2025 Rice Football Season Preview: Cornerback

July 7, 2025 By Matthew Bartlett

Next up in our 2025 Rice Football Season Preview: cornerback. Here’s our breakdown of the Owls’ plans for the group this season.

The corner room is going to be brand new in 2025, something Rice football hasn’t had to experience in quite some time. Fortunately, the Transfer Portal has allowed for some veteran leadership to be injected into this position group during the offseason, but that hasn’t removed all the question marks in the crucial defensive spot. How well will this new-look room adjust to so many moving parts?

Rice Football 2024: UConn Game Week Practice Report

October 24, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

It was an interesting week for Rice football as the team juggles injuries and prepares for UConn.  Here’s what we learned from the Owls at practice this week.

Injured on the final play of their game against Tulane, Rice football starting quarterback EJ Warner has been a significant question mark as the team prepares to make the trip east to take on UConn. Head coach Mike Bloomgren has issued some positive remarks about Warner’s status, but more light was shed during practice this week. And that might not be the only position with important injury-related news.

This update will touch on the good and the bad from the injury front plus some individual highlights and comments on the team the Owls are likely to trot out on Saturday. Here’s where the team stands prior to the UConn game this weekend.
