The Roost Podcast | Ep 59 – Rice Football vs USM Recap, UTSA Preview

November 5, 2020 By Matthew Bartlett

Carter and Matthew breakdown the first Rice football win of the 2020 season over Southern Miss and preview the Owls upcoming game against UTSA.

Rice football picked up its first win of the 2020 season, smashing Southern Miss in a much-needed rebound following a heartbreaking loss to Middle Tennessee. Comparing and contrasting the two-game sample size led to an interesting discussion about the long-term potential of this team.

But, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we addressed the game at hand. Tune in to hear our recap of the Southern Miss win and our preview of the upcoming matchup with UTSA.

Quick note: the addition of the UAB and Marshall games were announced after we hit the stop button this week. The UTEP cancelation came after we recorded as well — begin the question, if the game didn’t happen, was UTEP ever favored? We’ll cover all of that on next week’s show.

October 29, 2020 By Matthew Bartlett

Carter and Matthew breakdown the Rice football loss to Middle Tennessee and preview the Owls upcoming game against Southern Miss.

The first game didn’t go how Rice football fans would have hoped, but there’s a lot more to unpack in the Middle Tennessee loss than just the final score. Carter and Matthew work through the refreshingly potent offense and what to take from the defensive struggles.

From there, they discuss how what we learned from that game will impact the Owls’ upcoming road trip to Hattiesburg to face a Southern Miss team on their third head coach of the season.

The Roost Podcast | Ep 57 – Rice Football vs MTSU Game Preview

October 22, 2020 By Matthew Bartlett

Rice football returns to the gridiron this week! The Owls’ host Middle Tennessee in their 2020 season opener. Carter and Matthew break down the matchup.

The extended offseason is over and it’s game week. For the first time this fall, we recorded a game preview. From the X’s and O’s and how Rice football matches up with Middle Tennessee to the crucial must-do’s to pull out a win, Carter and Matthew covered it all.

It wasn’t all game news, though. Injuries remain a focal point of the hand Rice has been dealt so far. The first depth chart is missing some key names and the Owls are going to have to start the season with some thin spots in the secondary and at wide receiver.

The Roost Podcast | Ep 55 – The Rice Football Rankings Show

October 8, 2020 By Matthew Bartlett

The Rice Football season is two weeks away. In preparation for the games, Carter and Matthew ranked the Owls position groups and opponents.

Rice football is back on the practice field. For the first time in months, we’ve had the chance to see the Owls in action. (Our subscribers can get access to all those practice updates here.) After getting a closer look, Carter and Matthew rank every position group by confidence level.

They also turned their gaze beyond the hedges toward the rest of the Owls’ 2020 opponents. Could another team on the Rice football schedule be more beatable than UTEP? It’s certainly possible.
