Rice Football: Realignment and Plan Bs – August 2023 Patreon Q&A

August 22, 2023 By Matthew Bartlett

From conference affiliations to Rice football’s potential should injuries arise again, this month’s Patreon Q&A covers a lot of ground.

Rice football has had unbelievably bad luck when it comes to health at the quarterback position. The team really believes in JT Daniels, but what are the Owls’ prospects should they have to turn to Plan B at the position? And when it comes to the future of the program as a whole, what conference will the Owls be playing in come 2024 and beyond?

There were a couple of good questions this month, so we went ahead and answered all of them. Want to get your questions answered? Subscribe on Patreon for our monthly mailbag.

Rice Football Practice Report: Touchdowns aplenty in second fall scrimmage

August 19, 2023 By Matthew Bartlett

The Rice football offense exploded in scrimmage two, scoring seven touchdowns and evening the score after the defense dominated scrimmage one.

If you were a fan of touchdowns, you probably enjoyed the second and final full scrimmage of the fall camp. After the Rice football defense was absolutely spectacular in their opening scrimmage, the offense started to fight back this week before roaring to life with an emphatic showing on Saturday night.

This practice report digs into what went right for the offense, what it means about the defense, some health notes and a handful of acknowledgments for individuals who stood out under the lights.

Rice Football Practice Report: Offense bounces back from scrimmage woes

August 17, 2023 By Matthew Bartlett

Rice football is halfway through fall camp. The offense had a bit of a bounce back and a few individuals are making waves.

The Rice football defense stole the show in the first scrimmage of fall camp, putting the onus on the offense to respond. The unit bounced back in earnest this week, putting together a much more cohesive performance than they did last Saturday.

This practice report will dig into what went right for the offense as well as highlight a few individuals on that side of the ball who continue to rise through the ranks.

The Roost Podcast mixes up the format this week to debrief Tommy McClelland’s introductory press conference. Hear from the Owls’ new AD himself.

In addition to his more formal remarks — you can read those here and check out the full session, too — he had additional conversations with The Roost and other members of the media, covering a wide range of topics. Rather than give you rehashed summaries, here are his words directly with some additional commentary of our own.

You can find previous episodes on the podcast page. For now, give a listen to Episode 155.
