Rice Football 2019: Owls in the NFL Week 5 Update

Phillip Gaines earns his first tackle with the Texans and other Rice Football products made big plays. Here’s how the NFL Owls fared in Week 5.

There are former Rice football players are scattered across the NFL. Stay tuned each week for their game results and notables from each player.

Week 5 results

Eagles 31 (Sendejo) – Jets 6
Packers 34 – Cowboys 24 (Covington)
Broncos 20 (Callahan, Anderson) – Chargers 13
Seahawks 30 (Ellerbee) – Rams 29
(OT) Ravens 26 – Steelers 23 (Boswell, McDonald)
Texans 55 (Gaines)
– Falcons 32

Calvin Anderson, OT, Broncos

Anderson was signed from the Jets’ practice squad to the Broncos 53 man roster this week. He was inactive for his first game, a win over the Chargers. The Broncos host the Titans in Week 6.

Chris Boswell, K, Steelers

Boswell stayed perfect on the season (10-for-10), converting three field goals and two extra points for the Steelers against the Ravens. The Steelers travel to the Chargers for Sunday Night Football in Week 6.

Bryce Callahan, CB, Broncos

Callahan was inactive for the Broncos’ Week 5 game with the Chargers. He has yet to make an appearance for the team this season. The Broncos host the Titans in Week 6.

Christian Covington, DE, Cowboys

Covington led the Cowboys with two tackles for a loss against the Packers. He finished the game with three total tackles. The Cowboys travel to the Jets in Week 6.

Emmanuel Ellerbee, LB, Seahawks

Ellerbee was placed injured reserve prior to the start of the season. The Seahawks travel to the Browns in Week 6.

Vance McDonald, TE, Steelers

A game time decision on Sunday morning, McDonald was active and involved during the Steelers Week 5 game with the Ravens. He hauled in all three of his targets for 34 yards. The Steelers travel to the Chargers for Sunday Night Football in Week 6.

Andrew Sendejo, Saf, Eagles

Sendejo didn’t register any stats against the Jets in Week 5. The Eagles travel to the Vikings in Week 6.

Phillip Gaines, CB, Texans

In his third game of action, Gaines registered his first tackle for the Texans after signing with the team on Sept. 10. The Texans travel to the Chiefs in Week 6.

Rice Football 2019: Owls in the NFL Week 4 Update

Former Rice football Luke Wilson made his return to the field on Sunday and helped the Seahawks win. Here’s how other NFL Owls fared in Week 4.

There are former Rice football players are scattered across the NFL. Stay tuned each week for their game results and notables from each player.

Week 4 results

Eagles 34 (Sendejo) – Packers 27 
Saints 12 – Cowboys 10 (Covington)
Jaguars 26 – Broncos 24 (Callahan)
Seahawks 27 (Wilson, Ellerbee) – Cardinals 10
Steelers 27 (Boswell, McDonald) – Bengals 3
Panthers 16 – Texans 10 (Gaines) 

Chris Boswell, K, Steelers

Boswell remains perfect on the season. He connected on three extra points and a pair of field goals (including a long of 49 yards) on Monday Night Football against the Bengals. The Steelers host the Ravens in Week 5.

Bryce Callahan, CB, Broncos

Callahan was inactive for the Broncos’ Week 4 game with the Jaguars. He’s still waiting to make his 2019 debut with the team. The Broncos visit the Chargers in Week 5.

Christian Covington, DE, Cowboys

Covington picked up two tackles (one solo) against the Saints on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys host the Packers in Week 5.

Emmanuel Ellerbee, LB, Seahawks

Ellerbee was placed injured reserve prior to the start of the season. The Seahawks host the Rams in Week 5.

Phillip Gaines, CB, Texans

Gaines made his first tackle as a Houston Texan on Sunday, finishing with two tackles (one for a loss) in the loss to the Panthers. The Texans host the Falcons in Week 5.

Vance McDonald, TE, Steelers

McDonald was inactive against the Bengals with a shoulder injury. The Steelers host the Ravens in Week 5.

Andrew Sendejo, Saf, Eagles

Sendejo finished second on the team in tackles in the Eagles’ Thursday night win over the Packers. He had one tackle for a loss and a pass break up. The Eagles host the Jets in Week 5.

Luke Willson, TE, Seahawks

Willson signed with the Seahawks last week and made his mark on the field immediately. In his first action of the year, Willson grabbed two balls for 26 yards including a long reception of 17 yards. The Seahawks host the Rams in Week 5.

Rice Football 2019: Owls in the NFL Week 3 Update

Former Rice football pass rusher Christian Covington flashed in extended time. Here’s how other NFL Owls fared in Week 3.

There are former Rice football players are scattered across the NFL. Stay tuned each week for their game results and notables from each player.

Week 3 results

Lions 27 – Eagles 24 (Sendejo)
Cowboys 31 (Covington) – Dolphins 6
Packers 27 – Broncos 16 (Callahan)
Saints 33 – Seahawks 27 (Ellerbee)
49ers 24 – Steelers 20 (Boswell, McDonald)
Texans 27 (Gaines)
– Chargers 20

Chris Boswell, K, Steelers

Boswell converted two first quarter field goals (46-yards, 26-yards) and two extra points. He hasn’t missed a kick this season. The Steelers host the Bengals in Week 4 on Monday Night Football.

Bryce Callahan, CB, Broncos

Callahan was inactive for the Broncos’ Week 3 game with the Packers. He has yet to make an appearance for the team this season. The Broncos host the Jaguars in Week 4.

Christian Covington, DE, Cowboys

A few injuries in the Dallas front seven opened up some playing time for Covington against the Dolphins. He took advantage of the opportunity, registering three tackles, one pass defended and one quarterback hit. The Cowboys visit the Saints in Week 4.

Emmanuel Ellerbee, LB, Seahawks

Ellerbee was placed injured reserve prior to the start of the season. The Seahawks visit the Cardinals in Week 4.

Vance McDonald, TE, Steelers

McDonald left Sunday’s game early with a shoulder injury and did not return. More information on his injury should be available later in the week. While active, he hauled in one of two targets for 10 yards. The Steelers host the Bengals in Week 4 on Monday Night Football.

Andrew Sendejo, Saf, Eagles

Sendejo tallied three solo tackles and a quarterback hit, the only member of the Eagles’ secondary to do so against the Lions in Week 3. The Eagles visit the Packers in Week 4 on Thursday Night Football.

Phillip Gaines, CB, Texans

Gaines has not yet made an appearance with the Texans after signing with the team on Sept. 10. The Texans host the Panthers in Week 4.

Rice Football 2019: Owls in the NFL Week 2 Update

The duo of Rice football alums suited up for the Pittsburg Steelers had a stellar Week 2, leading the way in this weeks’ NFL Owls update.

There are currently seven former Rice football players on NFL rosters. Stay tuned each week for their game results and notables from each player.

Week 2 results

Falcons 24 – Eagles 20 (Sendejo)
Cowboys 31 (Covington) – Redskins 21
Bears 16 – Broncos 14 (Callahan)
Seahawks 28 (Ellerbee)
 – Steelers 26 (Boswell, McDonald)
Texans 13 (Gaines)
– Jaguars 12

Chris Boswell, K, Steelers

Boswell was perfect from the field on Sunday, converting two field goals (a long of 41 yards) and two extra points. The Steelers visit the 49ers in Week 3.

Bryce Callahan, CB, Broncos

After being listed as questionable to play entering Sunday, Callahan was declared inactive for the Broncos game with the Bears. The Broncos visit the Packers in Week 3.

Christian Covington, DE, Cowboys

Covington did not register any stats in the Cowboys’ defeat of the Redskins. The Cowboys host the Dolphins in Week 3.

Emmanuel Ellerbee, LB, Seahawks

Ellerbee did not register any stats in the Seahawks’ defeat of the Steelers. The Seahawks host the Saints in Week 3.

Vance McDonald, TE, Steelers

McDonald had a big day for the black and yellow, hauling in two touchdowns and a team-leading seven receptions. He finished with 38 receiving yards. The Steelers visit the 49ers in Week 3.

Andrew Sendejo, Saf, Eagles

Sendejo had three tackles (one for a loss) on Sunday Night Football. He had Philadelphia’s lone sack of the night. The Eagles host the Lions in Week 3.

Phillip Gaines, CB, Texans

Signed this week, Gaines did not register any stats in the Texans’ victory over the Jaguars. The Texans visit the Chargers in Week 3.

Rice Football 2019: Owls in the NFL Week 1 Update

Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books and several Rice Football alums made big plays. Here’s the latest from each of the NFL Owls.

There are currently six former Rice football players on NFL rosters. Stay tuned each week for their game results and notables from each player.

Week 1 results

Eagles 32 (Sendejo) – Redskins 27
Cowboys 35 (Covington) – Giants 17
Raiders 24 – Broncos 16 (Callahan)
Seahawks 21 (Ellerbee)
– Bengals 20
Patriots 33 – Steelers 3 (Boswell, McDonald)

Chris Boswell, K, Steelers

Boswell converted his only field goal attempt from 19 yards. He scored the Steelers only points of the game. The Steelers host the Seahawks in Week 2.

Bryce Callahan, CB, Broncos

Callahan was questionable to participate in the Broncos’ Monday Night Football appearance against the Raiders. He did not participate. There is currently no timetable for his return. The Broncos host the Bears in Week 2.

Christian Covington, DE, Cowboys

Covington registered two tackles in the Cowboys’ Week 1 victory over the Giants. The Cowboys travel to the Redskins in Week 2.

Emmanuel Ellerbee, LB, Seahawks

Ellerbe did not log any stats for the Seahawks in their Week 1 game against the Bengals. The Seahawks travel to the Steelers in Week 2

Vance McDonald, TE, Steelers

McDonald had a fairly quiet Sunday night, as did the rest of the Steelers offense. He caught two passes for 40 yards in a loss to the Patriots. The Steelers host the Seahawks in Week 2.

Andrew Sendejo, Saf, Eagles

Sendejo finished second on the team in total tackles, notching five in the Eagles come from behind victory over the Redskins. The Eagles travel to the Falcons in Week 2 for Sunday Night Football.
