The 2022 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Tyler Duffey – Minnesota Twins
Duffey continues to be an extremely effective member of the Twins’ bullpen. He made three appearances this week, working 3.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts, no walks and only three hits allowed, all singles. He hasn’t allowed an earned run since June 12, a span of eight consecutive scoreless outings of at least one inning or more.
Through July 6, Duffey has a 4.26 ERA with a 1.314 WHIP. He’s averaging 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings.
Lucas Luetge – New York Yankees
Luetge allowed one inherited runner to score, but otherwise posted quality showings in a pair of appearances this week. He worked 2.2 total innings, surrendering the one inherited run and striking out three. No runs were charged to him. further dropping his ERA to its lowest levels since mid-April.
Through July 6, Luetge has a 3.04 ERA with a 1.350 WHIP. He’s averaging 7.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Glenn Otto – Texas Rangers
Otto made his 10th start of the season for the Rangers on July 1 against the New York Mets. He allowed four runs in four innings. He was looking good through his first three frames before the Mets exploded for four in the fourth, three of which came on an Eduardo Escobar home run.
Through July 6, Otto has a 5.63 ERA with a 1.532 WHIP. He’s averaging 6.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Injured List
J.T. Chargois – Tampa Bay Rays
Chargois remains on the 60-day Injured List and won’t be available for the Rays until mid-July at the earliest. He’s made one appearance with the team so far this season.
Chargois has a 0.00 ERA with a 0.000 WHIP. He’s averaging 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
The Angels announced on June 17 that Rendon would undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist. His season is done.
Rendon finished the year hitting .228 with 15 extra-base hits, 23 walks and 32 strikeouts. His OPS is .707 and he’s collected 24 RBI.
