JT Chargois – Seattle Mariners

Moved at the deadline, Chargois has been effective in his first couple of appearances with the Mariners. He threw 1.1 scoreless innings on Saturday, striking out one of the five batters he faced without allowing a hit. He followed that up with another scoreless outing the next day, tossing one inning with one strikeout and no hits allowed.

Through Aug 6, Rendon is hitting .227 with six extra-base hits, 11 walks and 26 strikeouts. His OPS is .562 and he’s collected six RBI.

July 31, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

The 2024 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

JT Chargois – Seattle Mariners

The well-traveled Chargois is on the move one more after being traded at the deadline to the Seattle Mariners, a team he previously spend part of the 2021 season with before being traded at the deadline that year to the Tampa Bay Rays. Through July 30, Chargois has a 1.62  ERA with a 1.32 WHIP. He’s averaging 6.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Injured List

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

Rendon can’t catch a break. The veteran third baseman was placed on the 10-day Injured List on Tuesday (retroactive to July 27) due to lower back inflation. He missed this past weekend’s games on Saturday and Sunday, participating in two weeks worth of contests in total since he returned from the injured list earlier in the month.

Through July 30, Rendon is hitting .227 with six extra-base hits, 11 walks and 26 strikeouts. His OPS is .562 and he’s collected six RBI.

Dane Myers – Miami Marlins

Myers’ strong season will be delayed several weeks. The Marlins’ outfielder fractured his left ankle during a game against the Reds prior to the All-Star Break. The injury occurred while kicking a clubhouse door. He later issued a statement on social media.

The 2024 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

Rendon has gotten off to a quiet start to the second half, collecting four hits in five games since the All-Star Break. He’s been the Halos’ third basemen during all of those games before getting a day off on Wednesday.

Through July 24, Rendon is hitting .233 with five extra-base hits, 10 walks and 26 strikeouts. His OPS is .568 and he’s collected six RBI.

JT Chargois – Miami Marlins

Chargois has made two appearances since the break, both against the New York Mets. He pitched a scoreless inning on Saturday before returning two days late to surrender just his second earned run of the month, completing one more inning of work. He’s allowed zero earned runs in 11 of 14 appearances so far this season.

Rice Baseball 2024: MLB Owls Update – All-Star Break

July 17, 2024 By Matthew Bartlett

The 2024 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

Rendon played in 26 games in the first half of the season after battling injuries. He started to really find his stride over the last few weeks as he returns to regular playing time with the Halos.

Through July 14, Rendon is hitting .245 with five extra-base hits, nine walks and 20 strikeouts. His OPS is .608 and he’s collected four RBI.

JT Chargois – Miami Marlins

Chargois finished the first half with a pair of scoreless outings, throwing three total innings while allowing just two hits. He struck out three of the 12 batters he faced. Those appearances helped further lower his already impressive 2024 stat lines. He’s been spectacular since he rejoined the team from the injured list earlier this season.

Through July 14, Chargois has a 1.32  ERA with a 1.024 WHIP. He’s averaging 7.9 strikeouts per nine innings.

Injured List

Dane Myers – Miami Marlins

Myers’ strong season will be delayed at least 6-to-8 weeks. The Marlins’ outfielder fractured his left ankle during a game against the Reds prior to the All-Star Break. The injury occurred while kicking a clubhouse door, venting frustration from a called third strike and subsequent ejection at the plate.

Through July 14, Myers is hitting .265 with eight extra-base hits, seven walks and 32 strikeouts. His OPS is .759 and he’s collected 14 RBI.
