The 2025 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Miami Marlins
Myers experienced the hottest start of his professional career, slashing .282/.330/.381 before the All-Star break, doing enough on both sides of the plate to warrant some consideration on the ballots. He provided game-changing plays with his defense in center field.
While his bat was more streaky, he still found ways to contribute at the plate like this game-tying grand slam against the Dodgers:
Myers finished the season hitting .235 with 16 extra-base hits, 23 walks and 77strikeouts. His OPS was .617. He collected 19 RBI and stole 31 bases.
Tristan Gray – Tampa Bay Rays
Gray began the season in the Chicago White Sox organization at the AAA level before being traded in late July to the Marlins, who quickly called him up to their active roster. Gray went on to appear in 30 games for the club, serving as a utility infielder and playing every position on the infield. He also saw a bit of resurgence with his bat, swatting three home runs.
Gray finished the season hitting .231 with eight extra-base hits, six walks and 19 strikeouts. His OPS was .693 and he collected nine RBI.
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon missed the entirety of the 2025 season following hip surgery in the spring. Recent updates indicate he has yet to resume baseball activities. The third basemen is scheduled to enter the seventh and final season of his contract he signed with the Angels following the 2019 season.
