Rice Football Recruiting: OL Jacobe Cherry commits to Owls

The 2027 Rice Football Recruiting class is set up for success in the trenches with another pledge up front. Offensive lineman Jacobe Cherry has committed to the Owls.

It shouldn’t be surprising that a run-first offense is prioritizing the offensive trenches, and that’s exactly where the 2027 Rice Football recruiting class is building its foundation with its third commitment up front in the span of just a few weeks. Offensive lineman Jacobe Cherry has committed to the Owls.

Cherry hails from Bishop Manogue High School in Nevada and drew interest from at least one local program before opting to head east to Houston. He picked Rice over offers from UNLV, Navy, Army, Air Force, Dartmouth and others.

“I love Coach Abell’s energy and enthusiasm. He made it clear that I was a priority and wanted at Rice,” Cherry told The Roost. “I want to major in business and hearing about their sports management program and other opportunities made my decision a no-brainer.”

He joins fellow offensive line commits Jackson Koeppel and Jackson Hooker in a class that’s gotten off to an offensive-centric start, headlined by NFL Academy quarterback Viktor Lachambre.

The film for the 6-foot-3, 315-pound Cherry showcases his defensive reps, but the power he generates from his legs and the physicality he plays with will come in handy no matter where he lines up on the field.

When asked about the decision to make the switch full-time to the offensive side of the ball, Cherry credits much of that to the Owls’ staff. “What won me over [to the offense] was them breaking down what I’m good at and how I would thrive at o-line with my ability to move at my size and move people,” Cherry said.

He boasts a strong skillset to build upon and a bright future on South Main.
