Another offensive weapon has joined the 2027 Rice Football Recruiting class. Slot Cade Rodgers has committed to the Owls.
When the summer began, the 2027 Rice Football recruiting class was still looking for its first pledges. Now, just a few weeks into June, the Owls’ haul has picked up its sixth member. Athlete Cade Rodgers has committed to the Owls.
Listed as an athlete on most major recruiting services, the versatile playmaker saw work at running back and receiver as well as in the secondary at DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi. He picked up offers from Louisiana, Jacksonville State, Arkansas State, Troy, Liberty, Southern Miss, Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee and others before choosing Rice.
Rodgers further solidifies a potent core of offensive pledges in the group, led by quarterback commitment Viktor Lachambre from the NFL Academy. Also committed on offense are wide receiver Brody Diel, offensive lineman Jackson Koeppel and offensive lineman Jackson Hooker.

The Rice coaching staff has been fairly adamant in their commitment to getting great athletes first, then finding the best place to put them on the field. Rodgers’ tape is flush with explosive plays and relentless effort. At 6-foot, 175-pounds, he’d make an intriguing mismatch in the slot and profile as a bigger body in that room compared to what the Owls have had under head coach Scott Abell so far.
Rodgers’ commitment announcement featured him as a slot receiver, but no matter where he lines up, this is a potential difference maker with the ball in his hands, something the Owls’ esteem highly in their recruiting targets.
