Rice Football 2026 Spring Practice Notebook 3: Midpoint Check In

Rice football is roughly halfway done with its spring practice, which has seen several position groups and individuals impress in their time on the field so far.

Following a brief interruption for spring break, Rice football was back on the practice field this week. The Owls are roughly halfway done with their allotted spring practice sessions which have generated largely positive feedback when it comes to the host of new faces as well as the growth of returning players.

“I feel a sense of business with this group,” head coach Scott Abell said, reflecting on what the Owls have accomplished on the grass so far this spring.

“We’ve got a lot of growing to do. They’ve got a lot of learning to do,” he said. “I’m excited to see what it’s going to look like in another two weeks.”

This update highlights some of those highlight moments, starting with some familiar skill position players who are off to a tremendous start.
