The 2022 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
J.T. Chargois – Tampa Bay Rays
Chargois returned to the rubber this week, more than three months removed from his last big league outing. He worked one scoreless inning on Tuesday against the Rays, striking out one and allowing no base runners of any kind. It was a great welcome back to the big league club after an extended absence.
Chargois has a 0.00 ERA with a 0.000 WHIP. He’s averaging 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Lucas Luetge – New York Yankees
Luetge appeared in two contests this past week, throwing 1.1 innings against the Rays on Wednesday, July 17 and 2.0 innings against the Blue Jays the next day. Between the 3.1 total innings, he stuck out three, walked one and allowed five hits and one run.
Through August 24, Luetge has a 2.74 ERA with a 1.289 WHIP. He’s averaging 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings.
Glenn Otto – Texas Rangers
On Saturday, Otto delivered his first start without an earned run allowed since July 12. He worked 5.2 innings against the Twins, allowing one unearned run on three hits. He’s lowered his ERA almost a full point since early July.
Through August 24, Otto has a 4.66 ERA with a 1.394 WHIP. He’s averaging 6.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
The Angels announced on June 17 that Rendon would undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist. His season is done.
Rendon finished the year hitting .228 with 15 extra-base hits, 23 walks and 32 strikeouts. His OPS is .707 and he’s collected 24 RBI.
