The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
Myers finished July on a hot streak, riding a seven-game hitting streak through August 4 in which he collected another double an RBI and a couple of walks. He’s been the Reds’ everyday center fielder during this time as opposed to alternating as a platoon bat and a defensive replacement at early times in the season.
Through August 5, Myers is hitting .268 with 11 extra-base hits, 23 walks and 51 strikeouts. His OPS is .733. He’s collected 16 RBI and stolen seven bases.
Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins
Gray’s playing time has been sporadic since being recalled from AAA last week. He’s seen sparse action in two games, both at shortstop. He entered in the seventh inning on Friday, going 0-for-2. On Sunday, he entered in the ninth as a pinch runner, not taking any at bats.
Through August 5, Gray is hitting .229 with nine extra-base hits, nine walks and 59 strikeouts. His OPS is .597. He’s collected 29 RBI.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
Knocking on the Door
The following Owls either began the season in AAA or currently reside there:
- Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) — Big League debut on June 19, 2026
- Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
- Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
