The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
Myers remains actively involved with the Reds, making a few starts every week while entering many of the team’s other games as a defensive replacement. He reminded everyone how he earned those duties on Tuesday, making this impressive leap at the wall. Myers hit leadoff in the game. He also delivered an important pinch-hit double on Wednesday.
Through June 3, Myers is hitting .247 with seven extra-base hits, 12 walks and 26 strikeouts. His OPS is .750. He’s collected 12 RBI and stolen two bases.
Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins
Gray mashed his second grand slam of the season on Monday, joining the Orioles’ Jeremiah Jackson and the Giants’ Harrison Bader as the only big leaguers to record multiple such big swings so far this season. The smash was part of a big week for Gray at the dish. He went 7-for-23 with three extra base hits and 11 RBI.
Through June 3, Gray is hitting .248 with seven extra-base hits, seven walks and 34 strikeouts. His OPS is .693. He’s collected 25 RBI.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
