Rice Baseball 2025: MLB Owls Update – May 13

The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds

Myers saw action in three games this week, including one start on Thursday against the Cubs. While Myers did not reach base in his eight plate appearances, he made up for the quiet days with his bat with a handful of incredible defensive plays in the outfield. He made a leaping catch into the Ivy at Wrigley Field:

Then, two days later, he hauled in another deep shot at the wall in full sprint against the Astros:

Through May 13, Myers is hitting .222 with one extra-base hit, 10 walks and 15 strikeouts. His OPS is .632. He’s collected four RBI and stolen two bases.

Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins

Gray has settled into a platoon role at third base for the Twins this season, making two starts this week. He went 1-for-8 in those games, picking up one hit and one RBI.

Through May 13, Gray is hitting .242 with four extra-base hits, three walks and 25 strikeouts. His OPS is .676. He’s collected 14 RBI.

Injured List

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.

Knocking on the Door

The following Owls began the season in AAA:

  • Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
  • Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers)
  • Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
