League Roundup
UTSA in the Driver’s Seat
UTSA hasn’t locked up the top overall seed in the upcoming American Baseball Conference Tournament, but they’re nearly there. One win over their next three games would secure a share of the regular season title, at a minimum. They own the tiebreaker over East Carolina and even if they drop the series against UAB, one win would get the above the Blazers in the standings. Two wins would secure an outright title.
Byes on the Line
Every team but South Florida is still mathematically in the hunt for a top-four seed and a bye in the conference tournament, which has a new format this year. While it would take a perfect storm for Charlotte or Tulane to rocket up the standings, one good weekend might be enough for the teams just outside the current top four in the standings to play their way into a much-needed off day.
At 10-11 with favorable final weekends, Memphis and Wichita State have a real opportunity to sneak ahead of teams like Rice and UAB, who have been ahead of them in the standings for much of the season thus far.
Odd Team Out
While the upside is real, the risk going into this weekend is palpable for so much of the league. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the weekend won’t qualify for Clearwater. That means a team like Wichita State — which yes, could still finagle its way into a bye — could just as likely find itself watching from home.

Altogether, that means so much will shift and change over the next several days and that winning on Thursday might not matter if Friday and Saturday go the wrong way. Unless you’re UTSA, there’s a lot on the line with three games left to play.
