Rice Baseball 2025: MLB Owls Opening Day Roundup

The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds

A veteran of three MLB seasons with the Miami Marlins, Myers was traded this past winter to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for outfielder Ethan O’Donnell. Myers went through spring with the Reds and made their Opening Day roster, where he’ll contribute in the outfield.

Myers owns a career .245 batting average across 511 plate appearances with 10 home runs. He saw his most extensive playing time last year, appearing in a career-high 106 games with the Marlins.

Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins

Gray was on the move this offseason, too. First, he was dealt to the Boston Red Sox from the Tampa Bay Rays in November, spending a couple of months as a member of the organization before being traded again, this time to the Minnesota Twins in January. Gray went through camp with the Twins and made their opening roster, where he’ll contribute as a utility infielder. He’s appeared at first base, second base, third base and shortstop in his career, so far.

Gray owns a career .207 batting average across 122 plate appearances with four home runs. He saw his most extensive playing time last year, appearing in a career-high 30 games with the Rays.

Injured List

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

Rendon begins the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.

  • Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
  • Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers)
