On Thursday, Rice football head coach Scott Abell announced the hiring of cornerbacks coach Tevin Madison, completing his 2026 staff.
After a post National Signing Day departure of a Jeremy Modkins to Baylor, Rice football and head coach Scott Abell found themselves once again needing to make a position coach hire. In late January, that brought the additional of defensive line coach Eli Rasheed from Iowa State. This time, Rice dipped back into the power conference staff pool, tabbing Alabama assistant Tevin Madison as the Owls’ next corners coach.
Pending any late cycle departures, this is expected to complete the Rice football coaching staff for the 2026 season.
Madison served as an analyst with the Tide last year, previously working as the team’s assistant defensive backs coach. Previous to his arrival in Tuscaloosa, Madison coaches at Southeast Missouri State, Illinois State and Kansas State.

“We are so excited to add Tevin to the Rice Family,” Abell stated in a release from the program. “During the interview process, Tevin really stood out with his ability to teach and develop our players. He’s the perfect fit for the program we’re building, and we’re so excited to officially welcome him to Rice.”
