A National Signing Day addition to the 2026 Rice Football Recruiting class. Offensive lineman Bennett Eivens has committed to the Owls.
National Signing Day was all about putting a bow on the 2026 Rice Football Recruiting class. To do so, the Owls’ staff inked a handful of finishing touches they hope will push the class over the top from good to great, starting with the big men in the trenches. Offensive lineman Bennett Eivens has committed to the Owls.
Eivens began gaining traction on the recruiting circuit last summer, picking up a handful of offers from the likes of Cornell, Colgate and even Rice football head coach Scott Abell’s former stomping grounds, Davidson. After the Owls were able to step back and assess their needs this winter, they made a formal offer in February which was quickly reciprocated with a commitment from Eivens.
The inclusion of Eivens and fellow signing day add, tight end Jackson DeAtley, brings the Owls’ Wednesday total up to six signatures. Also officially joining the fold are safeties Seth Brown Jr. and Xavier Ether as well as corner Jordan Mitchell, long snapper Hamilton Sharpe and running back Justin Powell.

There’s a lot on tape of Eivens in space and working to the second level. Athleticism and the ability to move are coveted traits for trench men in this offense, making it easy to see how Eivens can slide in and be productive in this system.
