The 2022 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Tyler Duffey – Minnesota Twins
Duffey has been a man on a mission this summer. His ERA over the last 28 days has been a flawless 0.00, spanning 10 games and 13 innings of work. This week he dropped his season ERA further, hurling a pair of scoreless outings, the second of which include his second save of the season, coming on Saturday against the Texas Rangers.
Through July 13, Duffey has a 4.14 ERA with a 1.324 WHIP. He’s averaging 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Lucas Luetge – New York Yankees
Luetge pitched 3.1 innings against the Red Sox on Friday, earning his first save of the season in what was his longest outing of the year. He allowed one hit, fanning six and finished the game after entering with two outs in the sixth inning.
Through July 13, Luetge has a 2.70 ERA with a 1.267 WHIP. He’s averaging 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings.
Glenn Otto – Texas Rangers
Otto’s most recent start came on July 6 against the Orioles. He went five innings, allowing one earned run. That was his best outing since last May in just his fourth start since then, thanks in part to a multi-week absence on the COVID list. Otto picked up five strikeouts in the start, his most since May 25.
Through July 13, Otto has a 5.26 ERA with a 1.500 WHIP. He’s averaging 7.0 strikeouts per nine innings.
Injured List
J.T. Chargois – Tampa Bay Rays
Chargois remains on the 60-day Injured List and won’t be available for the Rays until late-July at the earliest. He’s made one appearance with the team so far this season.
Chargois has a 0.00 ERA with a 0.000 WHIP. He’s averaging 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
The Angels announced on June 17 that Rendon would undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist. His season is done.
Rendon finished the year hitting .228 with 15 extra-base hits, 23 walks and 32 strikeouts. His OPS is .707 and he’s collected 24 RBI.
