Rice Baseball 2025: MLB Owls Update – May 27

The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds

Few players have been as productive in limited opportunities as Dane Myers, who now leads the majors in pinch hit at bats as a frequent late-game replacement. The trust he’s earned at the plate as well as in the field has been well placed; he came through again this week with another clutch RBI hit:

Through May 27, Myers is hitting .256 with six extra-base hits, 12 walks and 24 strikeouts. His OPS is .776. He’s collected 12 RBI and stolen two bases.

Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins

Gray only saw action in two games this week — reaching base once in four plate appearances — as he attended to more important things: his son Walker was born on Thursday. Congratulations to the Gray family.

Through May 27, Gray is hitting .231 with four extra-base hits, seven walks and 30 strikeouts. His OPS is .658. He’s collected 14 RBI.

Injured List

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.

Knocking on the Door

The following Owls began the season in AAA:

  • Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
  • Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers)
  • Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
