The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
It’s been a fast start to the season for Dane Myers, who has appeared in all six of the Reds’ games to this point, primarily as a late-inning replacement, entering in the ninth inning three times and the sixth inning twice. That hasn’t minimized his impact, though. Myers earned his first hit of the season on March 28 when he delivered this walk-off winner against the Red Sox.
Through April 1, Myers is hitting .444 with no extra-base hits, no walks and one strikeout. His OPS is .889. He’s collected one RBI..
Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins
Gray didn’t waste any time making an impact with his new team, either. In his first start of the season, Gray walloped a bases clearing double that put his team ahead at the time. He’s played in one game since and has hit safely in both contests, showcases his versatility with stints at shortstop and third base, so far.
Through April 1, Gray is hitting .600 with one extra-base hit, one walks and one strikeout. His OPS is 1.467. He’s collected three RBI.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon begins the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
