Rice Basketball: 2025-2026 Postseason State of the Program

There was no leap forward for Rice basketball and head coach Rob Lanier this past season, which was a mix of good, bad, and everything in between.

Rice basketball turned in a 13-18 (7-11) season under head coach Rob Lanier, good for an 11th-place finish in the American Conference. Those numbers look eerily similar to Lanier’s first campaign on South Main, a 13-19 (4-14) season in which the Owls finished 12th.

Aside from swapping out a few conference wins for non-conference victories this time around, the seasons were largely comparable, with the additional loss in 2024-2025 coming in the conference tournament, which the Owls did not qualify for this season due to a change in the tournament bid structure.
