The 2023 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
J.T. Chargois – Miami Marlins
Chargois made his return to the mound this week, tossing two scoreless innings, both in games against the Nationals. He allowed one combined hit in the two outings and struck out a pair of hitters. These were his first appearances since August 2, missing almost three weeks on the injured list before rejoining the big league club.
Through August 29, Chargois has a 3.45 ERA with a 1.193 WHIP. He’s averaging 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon was placed on the 60-day injured list this past week, meaning he won’t be eligible to return to the club until September 9, in the final weeks of the regular season. There have been little updates on Rendon’s status to this point.
Through August 29, Rendon is hitting .236 with eight extra-base hits, 25 walks and 27 strikeouts. His OPS is .678 and he’s collected 22 RBI.
Knocking on the Door
Starting on September 1, all MLB teams are allowed to expand their rosters by adding two players, including no more than one pitcher. That means several Rice Baseball alums currently residing in AAA will have a chance to make another MLB impression in the days ahead.
