The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Dane Myers putting on another jaw-dropping, home-run-robbing clinic. The Reds’ center fielder delivered yet another stunning defensive performance this week to save a long ball.
Outstanding defense would have been enough, but Myers also upped his batting average by more than a dozen points, collecting a pair of doubles and an RBI during a strong six-game stretch.
Through September 7, Myers is hitting .268 with 17 extra-base hits, 34 walks and 70 strikeouts. His OPS is .740. He’s collected 23 RBI and stolen 10 bases.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
Knocking on the Door
The following Owls either began the season in AAA or currently reside there:
- Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) — Big League debut on June 19, 2026
- Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
- Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
