Rice Baseball 2025: MLB Owls Update – July 2

The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds

Myers endured a scary situation on Monday when making a play at the wall in center field against the Brewers. He made the catch, but his momentum carried him further, slamming his shoulder hard into the barrier and driving him to the ground. He was carted off the field as a precaution and would eventually land on the 10-Day Injured List with a shoulder contusion.

Early reports indicate there’s no clear timeline for his return, but that Myers seems to have avoid a severe injury.

Through July 2, Myers is hitting .256 with nine extra-base hits, 17 walks and 35 strikeouts. His OPS is .742. He’s collected 14 RBI and stolen five bases.

Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins

Gray made four appearances this week, primarily at shortstop, but he did see some work at second base. He remains a utility infield piece for the Twins. At the plate, he tallied just two hits, walking once and scoring once.

Through July 2, Gray is hitting .238 with nine extra-base hits, nine walks and 50 strikeouts. His OPS is .631. He’s collected 28 RBI.

Injured List

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
