After missing out on the NCAA Tournament, Rice Women’s Basketball has earned a 3-Seed in the WBI and will open up against Louisiana Tech at Tudor Fieldhouse
For the third consecutive season under head coach Lindsay Edmonds, Rice Women’s Basketball postseason bound. The Owls clinched an automatic berth in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) Tournament when they won the regular season American Conference Championship, finishing with a 17-1 record in league play.
Rice will be the No. 3 seed and will face Louisiana Tech in the first round on Thursday, March 19. Should the Owls and advance beyond that, they’ll play the winner of 2-Seed Kansas and Troy. These early rounds will be played at the higher-seeded team’s home facility, with the tournament semifinals and finals hosted at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.

This is the Owls’ third trip to the WBI in program history.
The Owls’ first appearance as a program came in 2012, which ended in a first round loss to Sam Houston State. Rice returned in 2017 and saw much more success, cutting down the nets with victories over Lamar, UTRGV, Idaho and UNC-Greensboro.
