The 2025 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Miami Marlins
Myers saw a limited workload this week, appearing in two games as a defensive replacement with one start — in Saturday’s 12-inning marathon against the Blue Jays — in between. Myers went 1-for-6 at the plate in that small sample with a walk and a stolen base.
Through August 26, Myers is hitting .236 with 15 extra-base hits, 22 walks and 73 strikeouts. His OPS is .625. He’s collected 27 RBI and stolen 17 bases.
Tristan Gray – Tampa Bay Rays
Gray is on a hot streak right now. After entering last Tuesday’s game against the Yankees in the fifth inning and going 1-for-3 at the plate, Gray has built a four-game hitting streak, including a 2-for-3 game with his first home run of the season on Friday against the Cardinals, which put the team in front. He’s raised his batting average roughly 150 points this week.
Through August 26, Gray is hitting .214 with one walks and seven strikeouts in 29 plate appearances. He’s collected three RBI.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon has been out of the news since it was reported he would miss a significant amount of time following hip surgery this spring. There have been no updates from the Angels or his camp since then.
Matt Canterino – Twins AAA
Canterino underwent season-ending surgery this spring and was released by the Twins before subsequently signing back with the club on a minor league contract while he undergoes rehab.
