Rice Baseball: 2022 MLB Owls update – June 22

June 22, 2022 By Matthew Bartlett

The 2022 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.

Tyler Duffey – Minnesota Twins

Duffey worked twice this week, both instances coming in a weekend series against the Diamondbacks. On Friday he threw one scoreless inning, allowing no hits. On Sunday he worked 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout. It was a strong set of games for Duffey who had given up multiple runs in two of his three most recent prior outings.

Through June 22, Duffey has a 5.60 ERA with a 1.354 WHIP. He’s averaging 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

Lucas Luetge – New York Yankees

Luetge kept a streak of scoreless June outings alive this week, working 2.2 innings across three appearances without allowing a run. He gave up two hits while striking out two, working the final innings of games against the Blue Jays on Friday and the Rays on Tuesday.

Through June 22, Luetge has a 3.66 ERA with a 1.271 WHIP. He’s averaging 7.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

Injured List

Glenn Otto – Texas Rangers

Otto hasn’t appeared in a game since he was placed on the COVID list two weeks ago. He’s recently made the trip to Round Rock for what should be a quick rehab stint before rejoining the big league club.

Through June 22, Otto has a 4.24 ERA with a 1.364 WHIP. He’s averaging 7.4 strikeouts per nine innings.

J.T. Chargois – Tampa Bay Rays

Chargois remains on the 60-day Injured List and won’t be available for the Rays until mid-July at the earliest. He’s made one appearance with the team so far this season.

Chargois has a 0.00 ERA with a 0.000 WHIP. He’s averaging 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels

The Angels announced on June 17  that Rendon would undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist. His season is done.

Rendon finished the year hitting .228 with 15 extra-base hits, 23 walks and 32 strikeouts. His OPS is .707 and he’s collected 24 RBI.
