Down go the Roadrunners

UTSA entered the weekend as perhaps the American Conference’s top contender for a College Football Playoff spot. Those aspirations took a major hit on Thursday night when they failed to keep pace with an FAU offense that seemed as if it would never slow down. FAU led by 13 at halftime, then outscored UTSA 25-7 in the second half.

Green Wave Drowning

It’s been a down season for Tulane, with frustrations mounting well before the Green Wave were absolutely boat-raced on Saturday by the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa led 32-0 at halftime and never had a reason to worry as they dismantled one of the conference’s premier brands, drubbing them by 50 points on Homecoming. Now 4-5 with three games to play, Tulane had better be careful, or they’ll miss out on a postseason trip entirely.

A Wild One in Annapolis

Navy looked to have things in the bag when they jumped out to a 28-0 lead over Temple on Saturday afternoon. Then Temple punched back, going on a 35-7 run of their own to tie the game up at 35 with 5:35 on the clock. The Midshipmen had one more punch, though, executing a near-perfect nine-play, 75 yard drive that burned most of the remaining clock away and ended in the endzone. Navy won 42-35.

Looking Ahead

Championship Game Lookahead

Coming into the weekend, it looked as if UTSA and North Texas were on a collision course to meet twice this season: once in Week 11 and again in the conference championship game. The odds of that second meeting took a hit when UTSA suffered its first conference loss, but even if that does mean this is the only time we’ll see these teams square off this year, it still should be a game worth grabbing your popcorn for.

Tulsa and FAU Tussle

It would take lots of chaos for either Tulsa or Florida Atlantic to make the conference championship game, but both look to be solid postseason teams in the midst of encouraging seasons. High stakes or not, the way these teams dismantled their opponents this past weekend and their recent successes make this a matchup worth tuning in to see.

Tigers in Position

With only one conference loss, Memphis has hung around in the conference title race. And with North Texas and UTSA meeting next week, the Tigers could be in a prime position, should they keep winning. That would start with a road win at South Florida on Thursday. If North Texas wins, Memphis is the clear-cut second-ranked team in the league. If UTSA wins, messy tiebreakers ensue, but Memphis would still be squarely in the mix.
