Rice Women's Basketball enters the 2026-2027 with sky-high expectations under sixth-year head coach Lindsay Edmonds. Can the Owls deliver on their big goals?
When Rice women's basketball head coach Lindsay Edmonds arrived on campus, her youngest daughter was crawling across the courts. Now she's in kindergarten. Six years into her tenure with the Owls, it's not just her children who have shown tremendous growth. Her basketball program has, too.
Three straight Conference Tournament Championship Game appearances have established an expectation on South Main that few programs of the Owls' stature can aspire to reach. Edmonds has met those expectations head-on by refusing to take anything for granted and challenging her program to do the same.
“It’s been an incredible ride, an incredible journey. I feel really fortunate to have accomplished the things that we’ve accomplished in the past, but they are in the past," Edmonds stressed.
"We gotta make sure that this team doesn’t feel like [championships are] going to happen just because they’ve happened in the past. We’ve got to put in the work. We gotta do our job to make sure we’re raising the bar this season. We’re excited about the opportunities. We’re excited about what we think that we can do. We gotta appreciate what we’ve done in the past, but know that we’ve got to work for the future to continue reaching goals."
