The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
Myers has reached base in six consecutive games. August 24th was the last game Myers started and finished in which he failed to reach first base, which accounts for some late-inning defensive replacements scattered among games he did not start. All told, he’s been a productive part of the Reds’ order while making plays on defense, too. This week, he added more power to his resume with his seventh long ball of the season.
Through September 16, Myers is hitting .265 with 18 extra-base hits, 36 walks and 76 strikeouts. His OPS is .736. He’s collected 26 RBI and stolen 10 bases.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season on the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will sideline him for the 2026 season, too.
Knocking on the Door
The following Owls either began the season in AAA or currently reside there:
- Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) — Big League debut on June 19, 2026
- Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
- Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
