The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
Myers was saddled with his first error of the season this past week, a costly outfield mishap that resulted in the go-ahead runs scoring for the Cardinals. That one mistake aside, Myers’ strong season marches on. Highlighted by a 3-for-4 showing on Wednesday against the Giants. Myers has solidified himself as the everyday starting center fielder with starts in all but two of the team’s games in August so far.
Through August 26, Myers is hitting .260 with 14 extra-base hits, 31 walks and 65 strikeouts. His OPS is .719. He’s collected 21 RBI and stolen nine bases.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
Knocking on the Door
The following Owls either began the season in AAA or currently reside there:
- Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) — Big League debut on June 19, 2026
- Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
- Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
