The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
It’s been a tremendous week for Dane Myers, who has hits in six of his last seven games. None of those knocks were bigger than his double-header showing on Monday. After going 2-for-4 in the first game with a homer, Myers was called off the bench to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth inning when this happened.
Myers added that clutch performance at the dish to already superb defense, like this outfield assist on Wednesday.
Through August 19, Myers is hitting .260 with 13 extra-base hits, 27 walks and 60 strikeouts. His OPS is .724. He’s collected 21 RBI and stolen eight bases.
Other Transactions
Trei Cruz – Detroit Tigers
On Tuesday the Tigers designated Cruz for assignment, sending him through outright waivers and removing in from the 40-man roster. He was unclaimed and was reverted to the club’s AAA affiliate.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
Knocking on the Door
The following Owls either began the season in AAA or currently reside there:
- Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) — Big League debut on June 19, 2026
- Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
- Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
