The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
Highlight reel plays have started to become the norm with this high-flying center fielder, but Myers one-upped himself with his most recent daring grab at the wall. Not only did he make the catch, but the home-run-robbing snag came with two outs in the ninth inning on a swing that would have tied the game had it eluded his grasp.
Myers also did his part at the plate this week, hitting .294 with five hits and two walks, raising his batting average 10 points over the course of the five games he played in that time.
Through July 29, Myers is hitting .270 with 10 extra-base hits, 22 walks and 45 strikeouts. His OPS is .752. He’s collected 15 RBI and stolen seven bases.
Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins
Gray’s time in the minor leagues was brief. A week removed from being optioned to AAA, Gray is set to return to the Twins after he was recalled to the team on Wednesday. Gray appeared in eight games for the St. Paul Saints, collecting fives hits, two of which were doubles.
At the big league level, through July 29, Gray is hitting .232 with nine extra-base hits, nine walks and 57 strikeouts. His OPS is .604. He’s collected 29 RBI.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
Knocking on the Door
The following Owls either began the season in AAA or currently reside there:
- Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) — Big League debut on June 19, 2026
- Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
- Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
