The 2026 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are making the most of their time in The Show. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls.
Dane Myers – Cincinnati Reds
Myers was activated from the injured list immediately following the All-Star break and was inserted right back into the lineup, making four starts this week while appearing in five games. He hit safely in all three games in which he had multiple plate appearances, highlighted by a 2-for-2 day with two walks on Saturday
Through July 22, Myers is hitting .260 with 10 extra-base hits, 20 walks and 38 strikeouts. His OPS is .752. He’s collected 14 RBI and stolen six bases.
Tristan Gray – Minnesota Twins
Gray played in parts of two games following the All-Star break, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a run scored. Following Saturday’s game, in which he played two innings as a defensive replacement at first base, Gray was optioned to AAA.
Through July 22, Gray is hitting .232 with nine extra-base hits, nine walks and 57 strikeouts. His OPS is .604. He’s collected 29 RBI.
Injured List
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
Rendon began the 2026 season the the 60-day injured list, a procedural move following hip surgery that caused him to miss the 2025 season and will likely sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
Knocking on the Door
The following Owls began the season in AAA:
- Hayden Durke – Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
- Trei Cruz – Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) — Big League debut on June 19, 2026
- Matt Canterino – St. Paul Saints (Twins)
