Rice Basketball Recruiting: G Jacob Dar returns to Owls

A familiar face has joined the 2026 Rice Basketball Recruiting class. Former guard Jacob Dar is returning to the Owls.

Jacob Dar was a promising signee out of Division III a few years ago before entering the Transfer Portal and heading to Seton Hall after one year on South Main. Now he’s back, returning to the program as one of the newest members of the 2026 Rice Basketball signing class.

While with the Pirates, Dar appeared in 31 games (no starts), averaging 10.5 minutes, 3.2 points, and 1.9 rebounds. He was a reserve player who didn’t get the same level of court time as he would have at Rice, where he started to surge late in the 2024-2025 season.

Dar played in 30 games (13 starts) at Rice, averaging 19.8 minutes, 7.5 points, and 3.7 boards. During that time, he showed glimmers of what might be. In 12 games midseason in the thick of conference play, Dar crossed 15 points five times, including consecutive 20+ point showings against Tulane and UAB.

The Owls never had the chance to see the player he might become, but now they will.

Dar is a versatile scorer, listed as a forward and a guard on both the Rice roster during his time at South Main and while at Seton Hall. Consistency will be the key factor in how big of an impact he can play in his second stint with the Owls, but the talent on the tape is undeniable.
