The 2021 MLB season is underway and Rice baseball alums are busy on the mound and at the plate. Here’s the latest from the MLB Owls from this week.
Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels
According to a report from Jack Harris of the LA Times, Rendon suffered a setback and wont’ be available to return to play “for a couple more weeks.” He was placed on the injured list on July 6 and had previously been expected to return after the All-Star Break.
Through July 18, Rendon is hitting .240 with 19 extra-base hits, 29 walks and 41 strikeouts. His OPS is .712 and he’s collected 34 RBI.
Brock Holt – Texas Rangers
Holt did not appear in the Rangers’ first game back from the All-Star Break. Their next game, a Saturday contest against the Blue Jays in Buffalo, NY, was postponed due to rain with a doubleheader set for Sunday.
Through July 18, Holt is hitting .213 with 11 extra-base hits, 17 walks and 28 strikeouts. His OPS is .604 and he’s collected 15 RBI.
Tyler Duffey – Minnesota Twins
Rain also changed the weekend schedule for the Twins, who played a doubleheader on Saturday after their Friday return from the All-Star Break was postponed. Duffey did not appear in either contest.
Through July 18, Duffey has a 3.38 ERA with a 1.269 WHIP. He’s averaging 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
Lucas Luetge – New York Yankees
A complete game from Gerrit Cole allowed for limited innings in the Yankees’ initial games back from the break. Luetge did not make an appearance so far and hasn’t pitched since July 9.
Through July 18, Luetge has a 3.35 ERA with a 1.116 WHIP. He’s averaging 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings.
J.T. Chargois – Seattle Mariners
Chargois did not appear in the Mariners’ initial set of games following the break either. His last appearance came on July 11.
Through the July 18, Chargois has a 2.49 ERA with a 0.829 WHIP. He’s averaging 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings.
